52 Weeks of Happy - 11/52

Joining in with Jen at little birdie, here are my four photos of happiness for the past week.

Our plum trees burst into bloom over this weekend! On Friday there were no flowers open but on Saturday morning, I saw a few. It happened overnight, I guess. By Sunday afternoon when I took this photo, there were lots of blooms. I love these trees; we have three of them, in front of the house in a strip between the sidewalk and the street. They're beautiful when they flower but I also like their red leaves and the tiny, tart plums they produce in summer.

I bought myself some new sneakers and they've been making me very happy. They are Skechers GoWalk Nice sneakers and I started wearing them last week while we were on Spring break. I didn't buy them from Skechers; I saved a lot of money ordering them from Amazon. I don't buy myself much clothing or shoes; I'd rather have crafting supplies and pretty household items. But I really needed new shoes and these are working out great.

I babysat a potted hyacinth at the park last week. I'm serious. An older gentleman was walking his dog on the paved trail around the park; he was carrying the hyacinth as they walked. He stopped where I was sitting and asked if I wouldn't mind "keeping an eye" on his hyacinth while he finished his walk, it was getting awkward to carry. I could smell the flowers from several feet away where he was standing, and they smelled heavenly, so of course I said yes.

He offered more details of the hyacinth's provenance; he said he had been given the hyancinth when he first entered the park, some woman handed it to him before he could refuse it. But then he decided to keep it because his dog's name happens to be Hyacinth. He left the plant with me and came back about fifteen minutes later to retrieve it and then he walked home.

This story is weird, I know, but it makes me happy too. How often do you get to babysit a pretty plant and hear an unlikely story, on a beautiful day at the park? Almost never, that's how often.

My small Bears and I had our first Sonic Slushes of the season! Mine was watermelon. The GB had blue coconut and the LB had cherry. We don't have these very often, but it's always fun when we do. I love Sonic's Happy Hour, where all the drinks are half-price. I love Sonic; we have one just a few blocks from home. I like to say that I bought my house because of its proximity to Sonic. I am only partially joking when I say that.

  1. Cute shoes! I would have watched his hyacinth too, weird or not. We don't live close to a Sonic but whenever we go to visit my Dad it is one of our favorite stops. He lives only a few minutes from one and we stop several times during our visit. (Dad lives in Florida so we are usually there for 5 to 7 days) The happy hour does have great pricing. My husband really likes the hot dogs too so sometimes we get those. My hot dog addiction is coming out again. In fact tonight I have my monthly appointment with my jaw doctor. Every time we go to this appointment we stop at this restaurant near there and every single time I get a hotdog and fries. So that will be my menu for tonight. And you were worried about being weird, lol. Happy Monday Jennifer. :)

  4. What a fabulous story, Jennifer.

Sonic Slushes sound yummy. Probably too cold for them here at the moment (if we had them here).

  5. I just love the story of the hyacinth! Random but very sweet too.

Ok, I just had to google Sonic as I had no idea what it is and now I'm thinking I need to live near one too. Their "frozen zone" looks fun. Much better than McDonalds, although I do love a McDonald's chocolate milkshake. Even though I always feel really sick after drinking one.

Have a great week Jennifer. x

  9. Oh my goodness - SONIC! We don't have them here but when I visit my family in Texas the only thing on my "to do" list is to make sure I get a Sonic cherry limeade while I'm there. It's my most favorite drink in all the world.
