52 Weeks of Happy - 9/52

Joining Jen at little birdie, here are my four photos of happiness for the past week.

I always feel fortunate to live in a place where the skies are wide open, clear and blue almost every day, though it's easy to stop noticing after awhile. Last week while I was hanging wet items to dry on my little clothesline, I looked up to see these nandina berries against the deep blue sky and was reminded anew.

My small Bears received a special package in the mail this week and it made them very happy. Their grandparents sent them these hats. These are my in-laws, the Bear's parents, and they live in New Zealand. They are American expatriates and have lived there a long time. They also live near us for part of the year. My mother-in-law, who is very talented with textile arts of every kind, embellished these sun hats for the small Bears. The GB got a pretty ballerina because she loves to dance. The LB got a frog and the logo for one of the LB's favorite hobby items, Arduino (he's a computer whiz in training).

One Friday each month, the LB's school gives out popcorn at the end of the school day. Everyone is welcome to have some, even younger siblings. The popcorn was a huge hit with my small Bears and they enjoyed their treat in the sunshine.

My purple tulips became more beautiful every day. Purple happens to be my favorite color. I loved the way the petals had an almost iridescent sheen to them, and I loved the unexpected yellow inside. They were bright, cheerful and fresh in my kitchen and I wish they'd lasted longer. Flowers make me so happy. I am already looking forward to the next batch, whatever they might be.

  1. Cute hats! How interesting that your in laws ended up in New Zealand. Have you ever visited there? I imagine it would be beautiful. That popcorn is a neat tradition. The tulips sure were a pretty color.

    1. Hi Softie! Thank you. They retired to New Zealand in the 90's and have stayed. They really love it. I have been there, once, before we had children. It's a really interesting place.

  2. Such deep blue skies! We don't get so many like that in the UK so I don't take them for granted. I love the hats, they are very cute.

I visited New Zealand about 20 years ago and liked it a lot - it reminded me so much of England!

    1. I haven't been to England but it's a dream I've had since I was a kid. I hope I can go someday. NZ is a lot like how I picture England to be, actually.

  3. Hi Jennifer,
I wanted to thank you for the lovely comment you left me today, I was really touched. Everyone has been so kind and I'm sure I will be getting back to my old blogging self soon. I'm so envious of those blue skies of yours and I know a certain Mr who would be envious of that school popcorn tradition!
    Take care,
