52 Weeks of Happy - 15/52

Joining in with Jen at little birdie, here are my four photos of happy for the past week.

Last week when we went to the BioPark, we spent some time in the indoor marine aquarium, which is a short walk away from the botanic gardens. My small Bears love to climb into this "porthole" in the wall alongside the saltwater fish display. This is a huge display, probably fifty feet wide by twenty feet high, filled with colorful tropical fish, corals and other sea creatures. They love the big tank but their favorite thing is to sit inside this window and watch the fish. They watch quietly and they don't fight; I need to have one of these installed at home.

At the botanic garden, I very much enjoyed a spring flower show being held in a greenhouse. Hydrangeas figured very prominently in the show. They are one of my favorite flowers. I love the scent and the way the colors look together. And there's just something about those big, overblown blooms.

I was very happy to bring my birdbath back outside this week. The weather cleared up beautifully after the storm and I was back in the outdoor spirit right away. This birdbath is very special to me, as it was a gift from a friend. It's made in the style of Talavera pottery, which is a form of majolica pottery made in Mexico. This birdbath stays outdoors from April to November, typically, and then we pack it away in the garage for the winter. It's one of my favorite possessions. It's getting a bit weathered now; the inside of the bowl part has mineral deposits left when water evaporates. But I love everything about it: the colors, the brightness, the detailed painting (such as the way that green bird seems to be looking at me out of the corner of his eye).

My small Bears helped me pick out flower seed packs at Lowe's on Friday afternoon. I will plant these seeds in the backyard, in a tiered planter bed surrounding our stone water feature (that we don't use with water). Last year, as I mentioned awhile back, I used a shaker-can of wildflower seeds but I was disappointed with the results. The only flowers which really thrived were Bachelor's buttons. I'm trying them again, since they did so well, along with others which weren't in the can assortment. I am most hopeful about the poppies, since I really love them. I love Black-eyed Susans too, and didn't realize they were perennials, but I certainly won't mind if they come back next year. I'm hopeful about my seeds and time will tell.
