Another chevron scarf...and a surprise

Last week, I shared the scarf I made for the LB's teacher. I used a free pattern from Ravelry, the One-Skein Chevron Scarf by Dena Stelly. I loved working on it and I'm really happy with the finished product. I liked making it so much that I decided to make a second one for my mother, as her Mother's Day gift. I hope she likes it; I mailed it to her a few days ago and she should be receiving it soon.

For my mother's scarf, I used the same type of yarn, Yarn Bee Soft Secret, from Hobby Lobby. This is a really nice yarn, made from 100% acrylic, but softer and silkier than most acrylic yarns I have tried. The yarn worked perfectly for this pattern, creating a lacy, drapey effect.

I chose a variegated yarn for my mother's scarf. This colorway is Honey Maple, with tones of brown, gold, orange, purple and turquoise. I thought it suited the types of clothes she often wears. She likes earth tones but she also likes brighter jewel-tones; I think this colorway combines both types nicely.

After I made my mother's scarf, I immediately moved onto making a third one. These scarves are so addicting! I had a skein of the same Soft Secret yarn in a solid shade called Light Denim, a soft sky-blue with a bit of gray. I went a little crazy when I discovered this yarn; after my I Love This Yarn debacle while I made the Traditional Granny Afghan over the winter, I was feeling like I needed to grab yarn I liked while they had it in stock.

I really like the way the blue scarf turned out; it's a lot like the gray one I made for the LB's teacher, but I think it's a bit more versatile in this color. What do you think of this scarf in light blue?

Here's why I asked...a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I would like to have a little event to celebrate reaching 100 followers, whenever it might happen. Well, it has happened and I am so excited about it! Blogging has been such a pleasure and such a valuable way of helping me savor the good things in my life through words and pictures. And I have made so many wonderful friends through this little lark I started just after Christmas, on a cold afternoon when I had been reading lots of blogs and wondering...what if? What if I tried it too? Do I have anything important to say? Would anyone want to read it? Fortunately, people are reading it and I'm thrilled and surprised and humbled by that, all at the same time.

I would like to give this scarf away to one lucky reader, with the winner drawn at random. Here are some details:

- This giveaway is open to anyone in the world. The scarf is very lightweight and should not be overly expensive to ship, so I am happy to ship it to wherever the winner lives.
- This scarf is 100% acrylic, but very soft and not scratchy at all. Ours is a smoke-free and pet-free home. The scarf has not been laundered.
- The giveaway period starts today, May 8 and will close on May 15.

If you would like to win this scarf, I ask that you follow my blog (through whichever following method you prefer) if you do not already, and that you leave a comment on this post; the winner will be drawn at random from the comment list.

Good luck! And thank you for helping my blog grow over the past few months. I love my readers and I am honored to have you take the time to stop by my little space to offer your words of support, encouragement and friendship.

  14. Jennifer - the scarves are so pretty! I envy that talent. My mom loved to knit and sew, but despite her best efforts, I never picked it up. Now that she's gone, it's one of the things I regret not paying closer attention to. If only I could take a step back in time! Beautiful work. Your mom will definitely love it!

  19. The scarf is beautiful but I wanted to tell YOU, thank you for your blog. I just found it today when I was browsing around and saw your Thistle. That is the Crest of one of my family lines, I always check out the place that the thistle is used. Then, to my delight, you are from ABQ. We lived in CO, just about 40 miles from the NM border and would go to Taos, Sante Fe and Albuquerque on a regular basis just to go eat really good mexican food, see the sites and people there are all so friendly. Love love NM. So i am going to follow your blog because of your thistle, your mountain and the wonderful area you live in. It will be fun getting to know you. A very long way from MT to NM so thank you.
