The water is back on at my house and now I can turn my attention to something more fun!
One of the most pleasant surprises about blogging has been the opportunity to win prizes from my fellow bloggers. I think giveaways are really fun, especially when there's a handmade item involved. I have been lucky to win several wonderful giveaways over the past year, each unique and lovely. I've won handmade crocheted and knitted items, fabric, jewelry, household and crafting items. I'm thankful to my blogging friends for the chance even when I'm not the winner. I've never been a gambling woman (I've never played the lottery and I'm often hesitant even to buy a raffle ticket), but this kind of friendly giveaway is fun and exciting for me.
With these happy experiences in mind, I've decided to have another giveaway myself. My giveaway is really meant to celebrate my birthday, which is coming up later this month. I love my birthday. I was born on Thanksgiving Day, though the two only coincide every six or seven years. I was supposed to be born much closer to Christmas and my parents were going to give me the middle name Noel, in honor of Christmas. They decided not to use it when I came early, and instead I got a feminized version of my father's middle name. I was born in Atlanta, in a large university teaching hospital named for one of the inventors of anesthesia. I'm told that one of then-President Jimmy Carter's grandchildren was born in that hospital around the same time I was.
Back to my birthday...it usually falls somewhere around the holiday, often during the holiday weekend, but this year it's almost a week before Thanksgiving. That means it feels a little more distinct from the holiday. As a child, the closeness of the two days bothered me, but I don't mind as much as an adult. We always do something fun to celebrate (usually dinner out) and the Bear buys a cake. I'm thinking about requesting one of my favorites, the amazing Berry Chantilly cake from Whole Foods Market. I really love this whole season, from Halloween straight through to New Year's; there's something festive and fun happening throughout. I'm having a giveaway to share my happiness during this season and also to thank my dear readers for being friendly and supportive all year long.
Here's what you can win in my birthday giveaway, which is Christmas-themed. I know Christmas is still a few weeks away but I wanted to leave enough time for shipping in case the winner lives in a distant place.
The giveaway winner will receive all of the above items. There's a crocheted Christmas garland, made by me from the beautiful Maybelle Squares from Annette's blog, My Rose Valley. The Maybelle Square is all the rage right now in the hooky-blog world. I made these Christmas-y, in alternating bright red and dark green, with cream-colored outer rounds and string. There's a small counted cross-stitch kit featuring a delightful hedgehog holding a green balloon. You'll also get a roll of Christmas ornament-festooned washi tape, a spool of ribbon with a snowflake motif and a package of sparkly gingerbread house stickers.
The cross-stitch kit includes everything you'll need to make a cute little decoration, for yourself or for a child in your life: Aida cloth, a hoop/frame, embroidery floss, a needle and a stitch chart. This could be a fun way to pass the time at home on your holiday break, or while you're traveling.
The washi tape and ribbon are pretty and versatile. You could use them for Christmas cards or packages. Washi tape has a very special place in my heart (I'm addicted) and a crafter can never have too much ribbon (or so I tell myself).
The gingerbread houses are really pretty, and there are lots of them because the package has two sheets inside. There are also candy cane and peppermint stickers. Glittery stickers bring out the 80's kid in me. It's part of who I am.
The Maybelle Square bunting is made with 100% acrylic DK yarn. The red
and green yarns are both Stylecraft Special DK, in Lipstick and Bottle shades, and the cream yarn is King Cole Pricewise DK in Natural. The squares are attached to a crocheted hanging string.
Here's how the garland looks on my dining room hutch. There are five squares and it's pretty long, so it could be stretched across a much larger piece of furniture or a wall, or even displayed on your Christmas tree. The end ties are long enough to make a small slip knot.
If you'd like to win this giveaway, please be a follower of my blog (you can become a follower now, via the method of your choice, if you aren't one already) and leave a comment on this post. I'll close the giveaway in one week, on November 16, and randomly choose a winner from the comments. The giveaway is open internationally.
Good luck! I hope you'll want to win these goodies from my heart. I would love knowing that my handmade garland is decorating your home during the upcoming festive season and that you are using the other items to brighten your day or someone else's. Step right up, don't be shy! Help me celebrate my birthday with a gift to you!
