Monday randoms

* I am now a person who buys straw.
* It was too windy to go to the park this afternoon as planned.
* I had already prepared strawberries for the park, so we picnicked indoors.
* I baked a coffee cake. I don't much like coffee, but I loooove coffee cake.
* I made a birthday card for my brother-in-law, using my new alphabet ink stamps.
* The chickens are becoming real pets, even eating from our hands.
* The wind died down, the children went outside and I read my new Sunset - LOOK at that cover!
* We ate slow-cooker minestrone soup for dinner; easy, light and plentiful.
* Interesting remainder of playtime in the backyard.
* First apple blossoms of the season - our tree survived!
* Beautiful Sandia sunset as seen from our backyard.

  3. I'm not a coffee drinker either. My new Sunset magazine arrived today. I agree, the cover is amazing. And, I found a recipe for a new Apple Coffeecake on a blog last week. I'm planning to make it on Thursday. Lots of great things on your blog today.

  5. The chick is growing fast! The strawberry picnic on your beautiful quilt looked like fun even if it wasn't the location you first hoped for and your Sandia sunset photo is especially lovely to me.

It is Spring Break at the schools around here, and I was amazed that I got to swim for nearly 45 minutes of my hour swim in the huge pool all by myself today!

Wishing you more interesting good randomness this week :) xx

  6. Lovely pics once again Jennifer, you do such a good job with them, and oh I am happy to hear your apple tree has survived the pruning and the weather. Hooray!!! That little chick surely has grown my friend - they've come to a good home - nothing like lots of love and attention to bring on growth spurts!!!

  8. The view from your garden is breathtaking. I'd spend hours look at that if I could. Glad your apple tree survived. I have a little cherry tree that I put in my front garden - it was a bare root plant - and I'm thrilled to see tiny buds on it. It's looked like a twig stuck in the ground for so long! Your chickies are doing well, no doubt the children love them. A great idea to make your own birthday card, I do from time to time as I've got some things from when I used to do scrapbooking. I no longer seem to have much time for it though. Funnily enough it was through scrapbooking that I discovered blogland. Hope you guys are having a good week. CJ xx

  16. I laughed when I saw your first picture. Chickens definitely have a way of changing lives. :-)

I bought strawberries last week and was hugely disappointed in them. They tasted like styrofoam. I think I'll wait until the local strawberries are in season to buy some more. I hope yours were better than ours!

  34. You made a fine day for your family. The straw.. a hint from an old chicken farmer.. if you get grass hay for bedding or for their run, they can peck and eat at the little dried grass in the hay, it's way more nutritious - straw is not nutritious for them. I'm not an expert and some might dispute it, but I think it's true. I'll be absent from commenting for a few weeks.. but I'll try. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
