May Day

Joining in with Lou's Nature in the Home series, I've created a May Day posy in the pagan tradition. I clipped a pink primrose and three stalks of Jupiter's beard (red valerian) from my backyard planter. I placed them in an old blue glass bottle with some kite string tied around the neck. I hung the posy from our own front door, instead of placing it on a friend's as the tradition dictates. I decided to surprise someone else: the Bear, who will see it when he comes up the front walk later, arriving home from work. It's extra-special because today is the fifteenth anniversary of the day we met.

Addendum: He was very happy that I left it for him to find. Romance lives on in the Thistlebear home.

  1. Happy anniversary meeting day Jennifer. I love your posy, that's such a lovely glass bottle, and you've found the perfect place to hang it. I really like red valerian, it grows wild here and the beautiful colour always catches my eye. CJ xx

  5. I was just telling my little grandsons that today is May Day and in the old days the children would make paper baskets or cones, fill them with posies and hang them on their neighbors door handles. How fun to see that you made a posy for your beloved! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. I thought about trying to make little cone posies for friends but didn't have the materials or the time. Oh well, maybe next week I will give out little bottles filled with flowers. I have tons of jars that need crocheted covers before they can be gifted. Next month will be 22 years since I met my husband and then October is 20 years of marriage and my oldest son will be 19 and my youngest 16. My, how time does fly. Have a fabulous Friday. Tammy
