Weekending

On Friday, the Bear and I had a lovely but quick coffee date before going back to the kids' school.

The Bear had volunteered to present a workshop about ecosystems for the LB's class...

and also taught the LB and his friends to use an ecosystem-simulation program (with sheep and wolves!).

Then, we spent the rest of the weekend...

Having homeschool fun (these are sugar crystals we've been growing for two weeks)...

Celebrating a doll's birthday with a stool made just for her (by the GB, with help)...

Watching a NASA science balloon hover all day and into the night...

Observing spiderwebs all over the yard, including this orb weaver's web near the back porch...

Making raisins with Grandpa's bountiful grape harvest...

Playing with our lovable hen friends...

Noticing a hint of fall in the air...

Roasting a chicken with lemon and butter...

And baking an apple pie...

Thinking hard about math...

Pretending and climbing (this was some kind of train)...

Crocheting al fresco...

Enjoying a restorative weekend at home together.

  1. Hello Jennifer,

It is all action at your house!

Such a wonderfully creative atmosphere for your children to let their imaginations run free as well as learning about the world in which they live. There are so many lessons to be learned not only in classrooms but in every nook and cranny inside the house and out!

  6. It all looks wonderful. Fun and educational :0)
I didn't realise people actually made their own raisins, I just presumed everyone just bought them at the supermarket. You might have to enlighten me on this process - I'm intrigued.

PS - I agree, the movies (inc songs) are nearly as good as the books. Violet made a huge Willy Wonka themed hat and coloured in the door hanger in celebration. I must take a photo and post it on my blog. Today's been a really busy day for me as I started a college course to become a teaching assistant. Quite scary!!

  10. The sugar crystals looks great. I shall book mark that to do with Pops. Marc gave a presentation when Sam was at Junior school about his job in the oil industry and I gave one about being a counsellor. It was great fun. What a lovely weekend you had!

  12. What a lovely, relaxed weekend. Can you just leave the grapes to dry out in the sun or do you have to do anything else to them?

  19. Sounds like a wonderful weekend, Jennifer! Is LB in first grade this year? She and our little Flynn are close in age. Flynn's b-day was the end of August. Now that she's an East-coaster, she didn't start school until after Labor Day. She seems to like 1st grade really well and even gets to ride a school bus. She and her mom and little sister went apple picking this past weekend, while their daddy and grandpa are off playing in Peru! I really miss apple-pickng time!

Your crochet looks really soft and squishy. I don't think you can beat crocheting outside in the sunshine. x

I love your little educational projects, you've reminded me that I used to make salt crystals like that when I was little. And how brilliant that the Bear went to school and did a presentation, he's a top dad. It sounds like a fantastic weekend, perfect family time together. Nothing better. I hope you have a good week too Jennifer. CJ xx
