Sit, stay
The wildest week is over. I ended up getting sick too and it was the worst possible timing. The small Bears were well enough to go back to school, and all the big events were happening, just as I was feeling worse and worse. I had to back out of things I had volunteered to help with. It felt terrible, but it was the right thing. I rested, watched TV and movies, crocheted when I felt like sitting upright. It wasn't so bad; we still made it to our events and I was able to help with the LB's class party on Thursday. Last night, we did our ritual meandering drive around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights. The Bear even tolerated some Christmas music.
This time of year, I find that things wind down as quickly as they wound up; the school break is here, the Bear's work shut-down starts in a few days, and we're all settling in for the holiday. I'm mostly feeling better. I just came home from the grocery store. I bought food for the week, as well as for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners. Ham on Christmas, and for something different, crab legs on Christmas Eve. Lots of cheese both days. A pomegranate and a persimmon, cordial cherries and Clamato. A half-gallon of egg nog. It's flippin' festive up in here.
I realized that I've already made it to December 20 without watching Love Actually, and I think I'll remedy this tonight. After that, A Christmas Story is the only one of my must-watch holiday movies left to watch; we always watch it on Christmas Eve. I've got plenty (way too much) to eat, books and magazines to read, movies to watch and all my favorite people close by; let the holidays begin.

ReplyDeleteIt was a mad week here too, lovely, but oh so nice to reach that point where we're all home and there's nowhere we have to be. I'm intrigued by cordial cherries, they sound delicious. I do hope you're feeling completely better very soon. Enjoy all your Christmas treats, they sound exactly what I would like as well. Your pictures are so warm and cosy looking. Wishing you an excellent Sunday. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear you are feeling better! I was also sick last week, but am feeling better now - thank goodness. Your photos are so lovely and peaceful, and that's the way it should be these few days before Christmas. I am hungry now just hearing about all the yummy goodies your bought from the grocery store! Love Actually is a great holiday movie that I haven't watch this year. Maybe I'll watch it tonight! I hope you have a great weekend, Jennifer!

I'm sorry to hear you were brought down by that nasty illness, Jennifer. It sounds like you've turned the corner though, so hopefully by Christmas you'll be 100% again. Enjoy watching Love, Actually tonight. I watched last night. I can't decide what my favourite scene is. Maybe when Hugh Grant starts dancing. What's yours?
ReplyDeleteOh it's too bad you were sick when you had so much to do but really happy you're feeling better in time for Christmas. It sounds like you have everything planned out well as far as food goes. Yum! Merry Christmas Jennifer to you and all of the Bears.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
At first when I saw your blog post title, I thought maybe you had gotten a dog, lol. I'm sorry to hear you ended up getting sick, too. Yuck. I watched Love Actually a few nights ago. A little bit of a depressing movie - I cried at the end. We watch A Christmas Story every year. It's our fave. And then I have to watch my favorite Christmas chick flick (which I haven't done yet) - The Holiday.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am glad you and yours are on the mend, I'm sorry that you were ill, Jennifer. Your celebration plans sound just right. [We are having ham, too] I bought some "organic" [sugar is still sugar?] candy canes this year...but have not thought to use them to form a heart as you so cleverly did. You inspire me! Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas! xx
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better and that you still managed to join in the events going on during the last week.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to make some sweet treats for little gifts today, may have to sample a few - all in the name of quality control of course!

Sounds like you have everything in control Jennifer it's a nice feeling when you can say that's it I'm done. Sorry you got ill it's usually the case when there is so much to do, glad you are feeling better, just relax and enjoy the holiday and you and your family have a great Christmas. :) xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you caught the bug too, Jennifer, and hope you'll soon feel 100% again. Your 'treatment' sounded perfect. :-)
ReplyDeleteI knew I was forgetting something !! Love Actually ! Thanks for reminding me (although my hubby will not be so happy haha) !
ReplyDeleteI hope you can chase away the last of those naughty bugs, and that you will be healthy and feeling OK with Christmas !
Hugs and kisses from Belgium !
That last week or two before school ends is always so busy. I'm sorry to hear you've been ill, I hope you're feeling better now. I've got Eleanor poorly, Daniel's been dosing himself with Paracetamol as he feels as though he could be starting with something and my Dad's got a terrible cough. I'm sure that one of them will have passed on something to me by Christmas Day, it's Sod's law.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly sounds very festive at your Jennifer, so glad your feeling a lot better to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWishing you happy times! :)

Oh, poor you coming down with a bug/"the lurgy" in the last week of school which is busy, busy, busy :( I hope you recover in time for Christmas and prescribe multiple watchings of "Love, Actually" :D
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better now. Congratulations on having all your grocery shopping done; I've got that little joy to look forward to tomorrow - after taking my youngest to the orthodontist! I love the last photo with the copy of 'Little Women' - so cosy. I don't think I've ever seen 'A Christmas Story', I must keep an eye out for it this week. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas. x
ReplyDeleteHope you feel completely better soon. I had the creeping crud myself last week ... didn't get much done except sleeping but I suppose we can't have everything! :)
ReplyDeletePomegranate and persimmon are such lovely words, especially in conjunction. We too are having ham on Christmas, by the way.
Here's wishing you and all the Bears a wonderful Christmas together.
Hi Jennifer! Hope you are all on the mend, I've been having a horrid cold as well since the beginning of December, and just when I thought I was better, it started afresh, so I know how you must feel! Hope you manage to get enough rest. Enjoy your family time!!! I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones!

Oops! Sorry to hear that everyone has been sick. Staying at home and sitting still sounds like the way to go for the holidays. We are on Winter Break and I'm crocheting as much as I can. Happy holidays, Tammy

Oh no, I am sorry you were ill. Typical, at the busiest time of year, too. I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you're settled in now, enjoying the festive preparations. I make John listen to a lot of Christmas music too. I'd say he tolerates it. Barely. xx
ReplyDeleteThat's right!!! Let the holidays begin!!! And yes! They wind up just as fast as they wind down...funny how that works!!!! So glad you are feeling a bit better friend...nothing worse than being sick let alone when it is the busy week with school functions! We have been running like crazy here too! So I'm holding up my eggnog and shouting a giant cheers to you! May this Christmas bring you all great JOY!!! Nicole xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou sound all ready to cosy up for the holidays with everything you need! Such a lovely festive post. I am sorry that you were ill, but pleased to hear you are feeling better now. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas!
