A happy week

We had cold, wet weather for a few days this week. We even had one school delay (I think there should have been two because the roads were slippery both mornings). There's a lot to be said for cold, wet weather when it's usually clear and dry and I try to make the most of it. I like a little winter in my winter. I like to make soup. I like to wear slipper-socks. I like to spend dark afternoons in the kitchen - teaching, cooking, puttering, talking. I hope we have another cold, wet spell before the winter is over. Maybe we'll have a few - the winter is still quite young.

We've been playing with the perler beads a lot lately. Some call them hama beads. I designed that mushroom myself. I like how it came out. I know all about using cross-stitch patterns to make them, and I do that sometimes too, but I really enjoy winging it. I need to buy more beads; we're running out of a few colors, especially red...hmm.

I'm feeling good so far this month, and this year. I made a conscious decision to let go of stress and anxiety about things I can't fix. And you know what? It's working. I feel freer and happier. This week, I went to a friend's sales party and had a really good time. On Friday the weather was nice again and I took my kids to the park after school, where I met up with some mom friends. I laughed a lot this week. I felt lighter. I'm crocheting a lot and am back to reading more after a spate of terrible books. I savored the last of my Christmas-stocking treats. I made really good lasagna. I had a good week. I hope you did too.

  3. I see you had a Tunnock's teacake. I haven't had one of those in years. How sad is that since I'm in Scotland where they come from? Keep cosy! :o)

  6. Well done on relaxing more and getting creative, it is a precious gift. It sounds like a good week and the soup looks seriously full of flavour. I love the pic of the Tunnocks Teacake which made me smile as I work not that far from their Uddingston Factory! I still have an unpublished post from last year which I must look out with pics of the place which you can apparently book for a tour except it is booked up 2yrs in advance!

Now the really important question is HOW do you eat yours? With normal bites of top and bottom, do you eat the bottom first or nibble off the choccie and then the soft white interior....its all very complex. I'm a get rid of the bottom and then enjoy a big mouthful of the sqooshy top and chocolate kind of girl, unless I'm out then I would eat it politely.

  10. Such a cosy post. I wish my 2 were still young enough for Hama beads; I do miss them - maybe I'll fish them out and have a little go myself! Well done on beating the stress; I can be a real worrier too, so I know how hard letting it all go can be. Wishing you another fun-filled week. x

  14. It sounds like a happy week for you. I've just finished the last of the Tunnock's Teacakes which I treated myself to at Christmas but I've been very naughty and bought another box.

  16. I'm glad you had such a nice week, Jennifer! And I'm so glad you have been able to let go of the stress and anxiety. Do you have some tips as to how you were able to do that? I could certainly use some!

  17. Yes it sounds like you had a very happy week, letting go of stress really helps one get through. I hope this week is just as good for you. x

  18. Letting go of anxiety is sometimes hard (I know!) but it's totally the right thing to do, I'm glad you have found the strength to banish the negativity. I have just bought a new book about stranded colour work, by Knitsonik, in it there is a design inspired by a Tunnocks Teacake (I have always wondered why a chocolate covered marshmallow and biscuit combo could be called a cake!!)

I also like a nice, really cold period in winter, I'm just not so happy when it's also wet - I prefer clear skies & frosty days...

  26. Hi Jennifer! Your week sounds just lovely and perfect. That last piece of Christmas chocolate looks yummy! My grandpa passed away last week, so my week was rather sad. I know this week will be better, though.

  27. I'm glad you're getting your winter fix.. we're having unusually warm weather and lots of rain. It's all good.. as long as we don't rain for 6 months at a time.. which it has seemed like it has done in the past. I loved all your photos.. those berries looked so frosty and pretty. Your kids are precious. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  34. Hey Jennifer,
When I was at University in Leeds many years ago, we would often have a cigarette run to the 24 hour garage. It sold Tunnocks tea cakes, and I could never resist buying a packet to go with my diet coke and Marlboro Light. I haven't eaten one for years!
I like that you have laughed a lot. The best medicine, and sometimes underrated. I need to laugh more. I like laughing. I like to make people laugh.
Have a great week, my friend.
