A little giveaway

We've had a tough week. I won't get into the details but it hasn't been easy and I'm just tired. I'm run down and kind of sad. The LB is recovering steadily, but I know he wishes it were quicker. I'd like that too, but I'm doing all I can to be patient. On the bright side, it's nice to be together at home, with nowhere we need to be. We've watched movies (Shrek the Musical, on Netflix, is awesome if you get the chance to watch it!), played games and enjoyed some of our favorite comfort foods like homemade pizza and rice pudding, and Chinese food (we had that delivered). He will be fine, it just takes time and care. I can give him lots of both, thankfully.

You were all so sweet to offer your prayers and positive thoughts for him (and me) over the past week. I'd like to say thanks with a little giveaway. The winner will receive the items in the photo above. There are rosy paper beverage napkins, pink-and-white striped paper drinking straws, a spool of dotted pink grosgrain ribbon, a bag of pastel flower-shaped buttons, a sheet of sparkly flower stickers and a ball of I Love This Cotton yarn in variegated pastels. It's just a few pretty, girly things I like. I hope you like them too.

To enter my giveaway, please leave a comment on this post letting me know your favorite thing to drink in hot weather - don't be shy, if it's a grown-up drink, say so! I can always use new ideas, and it would lighten my current mood too. For an extra chance to win, let me know in a separate comment how you follow my blog. You can follow now for the extra chance if you like. The winner will be chosen at random from the comments.

The entry period will end next Friday, July 24. I'll announce the winner on my blog and via email shortly after that, so please make sure I can email you. Good luck!

  1. Three types of drinks at present for me. I puree watermelon with sparkling water add a good squeeze of lime, it makes feels very virtuous haha .I am on a healthier living lifestyle I have been for a year in a bid to combat weight I have lost 1stone.This drink is delicious. if you add sugar you can turn it into a granite,
But I'm sure you know a girl has" gotta" have a bit of fun .I have just returned back from week away and I must say I have got used to having a cocktail at 3.30 by the pool .You can not beat a mojito or a Cuban Libre ,white rum , coke, lime juice lots of ice.
I m so glad your little man is on the mend. Hugs

  2. I guess I'm pretty boring Jennifer. Ice Tea and Water for me. I love diet Pepsi, but the cardiologist has put the brakes on that. I know how it feels to be recovering. I'm antsy to get out and about and things just don't seem to want to heal quickly enough for me. I'll continue to pray for LB and the rest of the family as you all recover.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Actually on a hot day I love nothing better than a cup of tea to quench my thirst, I drink my tea black, no milk or sugar.
Sometimes when I'm on holiday in France I have lemon in it which is strange as I would never do that when I'm at home!
Sending healing thoughts your boys way!

  5. How sweet of you to think of us after such a tough week, Jennifer. Thanks! Have you ever had banana punch to drink? You can play with the ingredients to decide what you like best, but the base of the recipe is a pureed banana to which you add lemon juice/ade, orange jucie, pineapple juice and then seltzer. You can garnish with a sprig of mint or strawberry slices, or..... and I think it is very refreshing especially if you go a bit low on the sugar content. I have not had it in ages and my go to hot weather drink is fresh brewed decal iced tea over lots of ice, but in an effort to cheer you up and energize you for the coming days I fondly remembered banana punch :) Still cheering you on from near Portland, Oregon, and sending you some more encouraging hugs xx

  6. When it works, I follow you through my Blogger blog roll. When I haven't heard from you in awhile I go hunting in my blogroll and click on the last time your blog name rolled up which is usually behind your latest post...if that makes any sense...and I tried to follow you with Bloglovin which sometimes lets me know when you have just posted, but also is not always timely. xx

  8. I made this really yummy red, white and blue sangria for the 4th of July and it was really good. I posted the recipe on my blog. I hope your little one feels better soon. Stacy

  9. So glad your son is on the mend, hopefully you will feel a little better soon too. I drink iced tea but add summer tastes as the mood takes me, mint, strawberries, raspberries.

  10. What a wonderful giveaway, such fabulous girly things. I'd love to be included please. A chilled wine goes down wonderfully on a warm day so I think I'd have to use the straws in a spritzer.

  11. That is such a sweet and thoughtful giveaway, and so kind of you. I am glad your boy is getting better....but sorry you have been having a hard week. My favourite summer drinks are: plain cold water, cups of tea, pink lemonade and Pimms (on special occasions).
Wishing you a good weekend, Jennifer.

  13. What a very lovely selection of gifts Jennifer. I'm sorry you're feeling sad and run down, I'm sure you will feel better soon and I do hope that your boy continues every day to feel stronger and fitter. My favourite hot weather drink is very cold water to quench my thirst followed by either elderflower cordial diluted with sparkling water or mint tea, depending on the time of day. I don't drink much alcohol but if something stronger is called for then very cold cider (I still have a couple of cases from my 2013 apple harvest which was awesome) or a glass of chilled English sparkling wine are both favourite hot weather tipples. Keep strong and look after yourself too.

  16. I'm so sorry you have had a tough week, I really hope things improve for you. I'm gald LB's recovery is steady if a bit slow, I will try to keep praying for him and you too.
The giveaway bits look lovely, especially the napkins. I have just started mod podging some of my craft boxes with napkins so they would be great to make a few more boxes really pretty. The other bits are gorgeous too, such girly, soft , happy colours.
My favourite drink for the summer has to be homemade elderflower champagne, followed closely by homemade lemonade! So refreshing :-)

  18. I am so sorry you've had a tough week. I hope that things start to look up for you SOON. In the meantime, you deserve to indulge in an adult beverage! My favorite non-alcoholic beverages are simply water with fresh lemon or unsweetened iced tea - any kind. I like both black and herbal iced teas. Now for the adult beverages, how does this one sound? It's a Watermelon Vodka Spritz. Puree 2 cups of cubed, seedless watermelon and strain through a fine-mesh sieve. Stir in the juice of one lime and a couple spoonfuls of sugar (to taste). Pour over ice in 4 glasses, adding a splash of vodka to each. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a thin wedge of melon. :-)

  19. Aw, Glad to here he is doing better. I think the comfort food will do you both good. Sweet of you to have a giveaway. My little Grand Daughter has been wanting me to make her a little Owl to sit up in her bedroom. I think that yarn would be perfect for it and the buttons for the eyes. My go to drinks for hot weather. Water, Tea or lemon Aid. Now don't tell my Doctor but my favorite drinks are a cold glass of Barq's Rootbeer or a Strawberry Banana and Pineapple Shake. I'm not a fan of hot Summer but having those make Summer not as bad. Thank You for the chance to win your goodies. Have Fun spending time together. :0)

  21. hope the next week is a good one for the recovering boy, thinking of you both.

hot weather drink - tea probably or for a bit more of a grown up affair, a gin and tonic, perhaps made a bit more summery with a splash of elderflower cordial.

  22. Aw, hugs to you my friend, and to the LB. Hang in there.

In the day iced coffee. In the evening, a gin and tonic. Xx

  23. What a sweet gesture... my daughter would FLIP at all these pretty girly craft things. Mama could use the yarn! :-) I don't drink alcohol at all, but I do love a good lemonade. I'm on a kick right now. In Quebec, you can buy maple water in quart size. I've seen them on Amazon as well. Lemonade sweetened with maple water. Simply addictive!

  25. So sorry it's been a tough week Jennifer and that you're feeling a little down. I hope you feel more positive soon, I know it must have been very draining to watch your child go through something like this, it all takes a toll. Be kind to yourself as much as you can. Thank you for the lovely giveaway. I like to make a very simple lemonade. Squeeze the lemons, sweeten with icing sugar or warm with ordinary sugar to get it to dissolve, then add sparkling water. If you're warming it, you can peel the lemon with a potato peeler and put the strips of peel in for a bit as well. And for something even easier, pure apple juice with sparkling water. Really light and refreshing and not too sweet. Wishing you and yours a relaxing weekend together. You're in my thoughts. CJ xx

  27. Not surprised you feel so rubbish, when our little ones are unwell it's like we just survive on adrenaline, and keep going, but when the pressure eases a bit it's like our bodies go "oh good I don't have to fight any more" and that's when the exhaustion hits us. I'm glad LB is continuing to recover, but it must be frustrating for you both (and Dad too) that it isn't quicker. You're doing great though, you're a wonderful Mum and I'm sure LB is very glad to have you :)
Now, as regards the drink. Mines very boring but it's a new discovery, pink lemonade. With lots of ice. In a flowery glass. Drinking it in my garden. It's not fancy, I just buy it from the supermarket. I think the "pink" comes from the addition of raspberry juice. Whether it's actually ever seen a raspberry (or a lemon come to that) I don't know, but oh boy it quenches the thirst. And looks pretty :) in fact I've just realised the straws would match lol
Thanks for the giveaway and big hugs to you and LB.

  29. So glad your son is on the mend, Jennifer. Drink wise for hot weather - Pimms if I'm in the mood for something alcoholic, otherwise a decaff frappe (unfortunately, caffeine gives me palpitations) will do nicely. xx

  31. I am happy to hear that LB is recovering, but I am sorry to hear that you had a rough week. You are in my thoughts. My favorite thing to drink in hot weather is iced, tea and lots of it! I am especially loving the mango iced tea from Panera Bread this summer. I hope you and your family have a good weekend!

  32. What a cheerful bunch of pretties you have found, Jennifer. So sorry you have had a bad week, but not surprising considering the stress and strain you have undoubtedly experienced the past few weeks. Hope the LB continues to get well and strong soon. My hot weather choice would be ice cold champagne, with a chaser of cold water with lime slices!

  33. For my part, I follow you via Bloglovin. And I had read about you little B! I was so touch because my son was very sick this winter, had to go to hospital and just stay at home after that.
He had pain with his kidneys. Having time with him and always be here with love is the only thing we can do for a kid. (so sad to see kids alone in hospital with no visits and no family with them)
Hope your Little B is recovering now!
We have hot weather in our country during summer, and with my 2 kids , we love to drink pink lemonade (lemon and watermelon) or yellow lemonade (just lemon), mixed with maple syrup.
    so sweet!! so fresh!!
and when it is mixed with ice, it gives us a wonderful smoothie!
    Miss

  48. My favorite summertime drink would be a margarita. Summertime is the only time I would drink a margarita. In the Fall I love a fragrant Pumpkin Spice coffee drink. Wintertime a Hot Cocoa with tiny marshmallows on top. And in the Spring it would have to be anything with lemon.
