Bouncing back

I'm so happy to report that the LB is doing a lot better now. I'm feeling better too, naturally; it's so hard to see a child in pain or discomfort, even when you know it's for a good reason. We're bouncing back, physically and emotionally, after a hard couple of weeks and it's getting better all the time, thankfully.

The Bear came back at the end of the week and we spent all weekend at home together, doing jobs around the house and relaxing too. I missed him so much; the week without him was hard, and I know he'd rather have been here too, but work called. Anyway, it's good to have him back and I enjoyed our quiet weekend. The normalcy of it was perhaps the best part: our "stove popcorn" on Friday night, our at-home date on Saturday night, the radio tuned to NPR all weekend, chickens and children playing in the backyard. The LB had his catheter removed on Friday and is getting around a little more, and we're all feeling a sense of relief that the worst is behind us. This little boy is SO brave and I am so proud of him.

Thanks for your support and kind words over the past couple of weeks. They have meant so much to me. I really appreciate it. If you haven't already entered my little giveaway, to win a few simple items as a token of my appreciation, you can do so here. I feel like I can get back to blogging more now, and catching up with other blogs too. Thanks for being patient with me. Today, I'm making minestrone soup in the slowcooker and hoping to bake some cookies too. The next few weeks are all about rest and recovery for the LB before school starts, so I've got some peaceful at-home activities planned for the three of us during the days.

What are you looking forward to right now? I'm excited for RAIN this week, the monsoon is here and we're getting a little bit of rain every day lately. I'm also looking forward to the Bear's birthday in a few weeks, which kicks off our household's birthday season.

I hope you have a great week, my lovely friends.

  4. Such great happy news, I can hear the relief in your words and writing. It is hard to see your child in pain and unwell, takes a toll on us, no doubt about that! It's so nice when life gets back on a fairly even keel again. Now could you send some rain and a few puffs of cool air up here?!?

  5. Hello Jennifer! I am so happy to hear that LB is recovering and doing well. This is wonderful news! It sounds like you had relaxing weekend at home with your family, and I know that's exactly what you needed. Your minestrone soup sounds yummy, and the cookies as well. I am looking forward to moving next week and getting settled in a new place. We will be renting for a while until we decide exactly where we want to be. Maybe another city or state? We will see, but at least we no longer have the stress of selling our house hanging over us, and it will much easier to make a move when make a decision as to where we want to be. We are looking forward to a trip to Portland, Oregon in September. We are very excited! I am also looking forward to school starting back in late August... it has been a long summer. I miss our routine, and so does Charlotte. Hope you are having a great day!

  8. That's brilliant news, you all must feel so relived. I could do with a bit more rain here, at night you understand for the garden! I'm looking forward to spending a full week with my new sewing machine as I have a week off work. Apart from a couple of day trips that's what I plan on doing. Take care all x

  9. So good to read LB is feeling better !!! I'm so happy for you (and for LB, of course !)...
By the way, if you want rain, please come and fetch it here ;-)... We've had some rainy dull days and I already have had more than enough of it (when it rains here in summer, everything looks like fall, everything is gray, so not comparable to monsoon season where you live)...
Love the photo of the chickens at the door - I think if you would let them, they would come in & join you for popcorn on friday night :-))) !

  16. so very true....as a mom, we can only be as happy as our most unhappy child. Sounds like you all have turned the proverbial corner, but you are still in our hearts and prayers.

  17. Good to hear LB is getting there, with such good care from his mum and family. I think we need a good storm here, it's very hot and close xx

  18. What good news - both of you, bouncing back Jennifer. No matter what age our children, we are always a mother and their welfare affects us deeply (issues involving adult children at this end!). The chickens are their usual very attractive selves, and I am loving your pretty pink and blue tins and your button collection, speaking of happy crafting times ahead!

  19. It sounds like you've all been through a scary time - I have missed a lot of blogreading lately and don't know the details, but am so glad to hear that things are getting better. Best wishes to LB for speedy healing.

I love the shot of the chickens outside the sliding door. They look as though they're about to step into the flipflops. :)

  20. So glad that your boy is on the mend...and that you're feeling better, too. And that your hubby is home safe and sound. Things are looking up, indeed! Lots of rain here in IL...we need a break from it. What am I looking forward to...well, I wish I could put this week on fast-forward. My son, Phil's 27th birthday would've been tomorrow, so that will be a hard day...and then I have a dentist appt on Thurs. (You know how much I love the dentist - said sarcastically!) I am holding my breath until Saturday - my hubby's birthday. We have a day outing planned.

Those chickens look so at home there. And what is the cooking you've photographed, it's surely not minestrone soup ... a custard?

    1. Thanks, Sam. The chickens like to stand near the opening in the door because there is a breeze blowing out from the ventilation in the house. They stand there to cool off. :)
