Guitarists

Most afternoons, these two spend some time playing their guitars together. They practice separately too, and each is a little annoyed to have the other nearby during their solo practice, but they will usually sit together for a few minutes at some point in the afternoon. He helps her with fingerings that she's still trying to master. He's remarkably patient with her, explaining the same things over and over until she understands. Sometimes he moves her fingers on the neck of the guitar to make sure they're in the right place. When they start to play, he waits for her to get it right. He isn't this patient with her about everything, so I'm often surprised by this. I think it's because his own playing is very important to him, making him feel more tender toward someone he plays with. They don't always get along, but they care about each other and they're mostly kind. Even on the rough days, I can look forward to a few minutes of gentle harmony.

Thanks for the birthday and get-well wishes you've left for us lately. We're still dealing with the latest illness, though the small Bears are back in school today. We're following our doctor's advice as to medicines and treatments and otherwise riding it out. It's fall and we have young kids, so illness is just a fact of life. I've accepted it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it, ha. Anyway, I'm really tired. I've been sleeping very poorly for weeks now and am so ready to stop nursing sick people. This too shall pass. Just another week until our fall break and I'll have a few days to relax.

The first installment of my Winter Project Link Party will be live on Saturday! Please join me for another motivating season of check-ins and project-sharing.

  1. It's lovely that they've got a common interest. Sometimes, having children of opposite sexes with an age gap means that they don't have much in common so it's good that there's something they can share. It was swimming with my two, I'm not sure they shared any other interests when they were young.

  2. I love guitar music. It's nice that he's helping his little sister. Sorry to hear you've all been sick. A friend took a year off from teaching. She went back this year and within the first week had a full fledged major cold that took some time to get over.

  4. It's so nice when siblings help each other out. Sometimes it feels like they argue and argue, but, then one gets the other a snack or help them learn to rainbowloom...so nice.

  6. Lovely, your kids are just lovely. Mine just bicker and fight, it is relentless. I am glad the little ones are better, maybe you will have a chance to get some rest now. Look after yourself my friend. xx

  7. How wonderful to read how your children practice so well together. It's normal for the sibling bickering too at times, but not easy for Mom to deal with. I remember it well and our kids always got along better than a lot of kids. I'm glad that the sickness seems to be easing for all of you. I hope you soon get the rest your body needs.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I love this, it's adorable. I wish mine would play music together. I came home last night to the sound of the piano and the recorder. They were stood about two foot apart both playing completely different things and trying to out compete each other. I shall try and introduce the idea of playing together. CJ xx

  11. We have the sniffles being passed around here too unfortunately. I do hope you all feel better soon.

It is lovely that your two share a common interest and can work together so well. I find bickering between my children one of the hardest things to deal with as a parent, so understand the relief when harmony reigns. Though I have found that the older they get the more harmony there is in the house and that is something I am very grateful for. Enjoy your weekend x

  13. I remember the summer I had two boys getting their wisdom teeth out, and one son getting his tonsils out. I had to take so much time off work for nursing everyone, I was exhausted. I hope you get some rest my friend.
